ABOUT NITROMED
NitroMed® is an emerging pharmaceutical company focused on the research, development and commercialization of proprietary pharmaceuticals based on the therapeutic benefits of the naturally occurring molecule nitric oxide. The goal is to become a leading, multi-product pharmaceutical company by developing innovative nitric oxide products.
The Company's lead drug, BiDil®, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) June 23, 2005. BiDil is indicated for the treatment of heart failure as an adjunct to current standard therapy in self-identified black patients, to improve survival, prolong time to hospitalization for heart failure and improve patient-reported functional status. NitroMed is directly marketing BiDil to physicians who treat black patients with heart failure.
By building on the BiDil development experience and commercialization infrastructure, NitroMed seeks to identify and market additional pharmaceutical products for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases for the black population. NitroMed is also applying nitric oxide technology with the goal of developing new pharmaceuticals, as well as safer and more effective versions of existing drugs. The research and development efforts focus on major diseases that are characterized by a deficiency in nitric oxide, such as cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases.
